The Hostess advised us that our “assigned table” was not yet available. We arrived at Café Old Vienna Saturday night at 6:20 PM and knew immediately there was a problem since a large group of people were milling around outside and grousing that they had 6:00 PM reservations and weren’t yet seated. Let me state up-front, the accolades begin and end with the food being excellent, the service was so-so, but worst of all - management’s utter failure to seat their customers in a timely fashion was appalling. I made reservations on January 28, for Valentine’s Day for a party of four, at 6:30 PM. Saint Valentine’s Day at Café Old Vienna with Sequel A night I would rather forget! We’ve been patrons at Café Old Vienna almost since they opened. I would have loved to recommend this place because the food was truly delicious, but they need to take food allergies more seriously than they do. I know it wasn't gluten because the reaction only lasted 48 hours, but it was a strong reaction, so I suspect there was dairy lurking somewhere in my meal. Everything was delicious, but I was sick the rest of the night and following day. I ordered the Parisian Schnitzel with Home Fries and Red Cabbage. I explained my food allergies to our server, and any questions I asked to the order of "Does have ?" were answered with an immediate, "No." My husband said they must just be well versed in the ingredients in their food. The email explained my phone call and my concern, and the email response I got said, "We can leave off the butter and cream! )" We decided to go anyway. I decided to email them instead because the person on the phone brushed me off. They told me everything, but that was a bit alarming, since the menu says that one item has butter and another (the crepes) has ice cream and whipped cream. Before going to the restaurant, I called and asked which of their GF menu items were also DF. This place has a separate gluten-free menu, so I figured it would be safer than most. Be sure to make reservations and hopefully, your service is not a disappointment.I have multiple food allergies: gluten (I'm a celiac), dairy (casein, specifically), and various fruits/veggies. It’s a busy place, surely an indication of the quality and authenticity of the food. I hope the service was simply isolated to one individual, who I wish I had received her name. Rather than deal with her again, we decided to go home. I was told the server we had would need to get it. I wanted dessert- which looked wonderful and returned to the hostess station (where a dessert case is located) and asked to purchase a piece of cake. The served checked in, with bill in hand, which my husband took up to pay. We asked for the plate to be reheated and when I also had to ask fir mustard and a glass of water, was welcomed with irritated non verbals. The server also forgot to bring us plates. They received steaming hot dishes that looked amazing. A table of four was seated in front of us 15 minutes after we were seated. The pumpkin soup was amazing and the house dressing equally tasty. We ordered the German feast for two, with a salad and a soup. We were early but waited 10 minutes after the confirmed reservation time. We waited at the bar for our table, which was slightly delayed. There are many options, although they were out of the beer my husband wanted so we opted for something different. We were 10 minutes early so took a peak at the happy hour menu. Upon arrival, we noticed there was live accordion music and happy hour drinks from 4-7pm. The restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday so with the timing of our trip, opted for a Tuesday evening. This restaurant came highly recommended and it was suggested to make a reservation.
